12/15/2024 – Multiple incidents at Chippewa Correctional Facility (URF) draw administrative response.
Over the last few days, URF’s Level II Housing Units have experienced an increase of fights and prisoner on prisoner assaults primarily one on one in addition to threatening behavior towards staff. There were no injuries to staff. Last evening there was a one-on-one fight in Round Unit. The facility went on a phase plan Saturday evening to include the Level II and Round Units through Monday, December 16.
Two prisoners did go to the hospital with one prisoner receiving sutures in the neck area and the other prisoner sustained a closed fracture of the nasal bone in the assault. Both prisoners returned to the facility after treatment.
Of the incidents, not all involved prisoners had an STG designation, and if there was one it was a suspect Vice Lord, Gangster Discipline, Blood, Melanic, White Supremist, or Latin Count.
All involved prisoners were drug tested with a negative result.
URF Administration did rounds this morning and wardens’ forum members were interviewed. They stated all were isolated incidents.
Inspector A and A/ADW B conducted interviews with prisoners in GP and received consistent stories about the incidents which are mostly unrelated.
Some of the incidents were related to theft of personal property, some were issues between cellmates, some prisoners stated they were a result of prisoners smoking unknown substance and then acting out or reacting to show a form of being tough.
The units are quiet with no issues.
On Monday, the administration is going to review their transfer list and identify prisoners who should be transferred. There was a schedule plan to do so as the facility needs to work on getting some extra ride outs for segregation needs over the upcoming holidays.
