11/11/2024 – Corrections Officer burned with hot liquid thrown by a prisoner at Carson City Correctional Facility (DRF)
At 1325 hours, Prisoner A, entered the PC office and threw a cup of unknown hot liquid on Officer A’s face and torso, then began striking him in the head and neck area with closed fists. Officer A and prisoner A went to the floor as prisoner A continued to strike officer A in the head and neck area.
Prior to the assault, during a shakedown in Prisoner A’s cell, Officer A found a piece of paper showing how to jailbreak a player, and an altered JP6 that had internet access. CO A was in the PC Office writing an NOI at the time of the assault.
Staff responded with loud verbal commands to stop, prisoner A did not comply. Staff dispersed Personal Chemical Agent (PCA) #72 at prisoner A, which was not effective. Staff then called for assistance and pulled prisoner A off from Officer A. Staff handcuffed prisoner A and pulled prisoner A into the hallway outside of the office and waited for assistance. Staff escorted prisoner A to segregation. Prisoner A was strip searched and given the opportunity to decontaminate. Staff secured the scene with caution tape.
Staff escorted Officer A to University of Michigan – Sparrow – Carson City Hospital (CCH) by state car. CO A sustained burns on his arms and face resulting in blistering. He has since been released from the hospital.
Prisoner A bloody clothes were secured in MSP Locker #7, Officer A’s uniform was secured in MSP Locker #8.
MSP was contacted and cleared the scene at 1714 hours.
Prisoner A was transferred to ICF-by-ICF Transportation.
Facility Inspector was notified for an MSP referral.
