11/5/2024 – Multiple Corrections Officers treated for injuries after prisoner assault at Chippewa Correctional Facility (URF)
1933 hrs., in the Level II Neebish Unit Lobby, prisoner A was threatening Officer A stating he would kick CO A’s behind. The Threatening Behavior was called over the radio and staff responded. Prisoner A turned around on the stairs and headed toward Officer A.
Officers B and C got between Officer A and prisoner A and started applying hand restraints. Prisoner A threw a pen and struck Officer A, and a staff assault was called. Prisoner A then punched Officer B in the face. Officer B fell backwards and hit his head and neck on the desk. Officer B got back up and assisted Officer C in restraining A and applying the hand restraints.
Sgt. D arrived on scene and with additional staff and prisoner A was placed in the Transport Chair. Prisoner A started spitting blood at staff and a Spit Mask was requested, authorized, and applied. Prisoner A was taken to the Intake Module in Steamboat Unit. Prisoner A continued to yell, threaten, and scream at staff, and he was transitioned to the Restraint Chair at 1945 hrs.
Officer B sustained injuries to his face, neck and back of his head. He was exposed to prisoner A’s blood on his arm. Office C sustained contusions and abrasions to his right arm and elbow. Officer C was also exposed to prisoner A’s blood on his hands. They were taken to MyMichigan Medical Center-SSM at 2025 hrs via a state car.
Prisoner A was evaluated by health care staff and was treated for a small laceration above his lip.
Neebish Unit is currently locked down with limited movement to the bathroom.
Warden E spoke with ADD Chapman, and prisoner A will transferred to MBP.
