10/25/2024 – Multiple Corrections Officers punched and bit by a prisoner at Oaks Correctional Facility (ECF)  

At 1312 hours, prisoner A entered Housing Unit 2 B-Base becoming argumentative with Officer A with prisoner A then threatening Officer A due to a cell shakedown earlier in the day and paperwork that was removed from the cell. 

Prisoner A stated that if Officer A or CO B entered his cell again, he will beat their asses . During this exchange, prisoner A was ordered to turn around to be restrained. While Officer A attempted to place wrist restraints onto prisoner A, prisoner A pulled away from Officer A and Officer B.

At 13:13 hours, Officer A and Officer B attempted to gain control of prisoner A. Prisoner A struck Officer B in his right cheek two times with a closed fist knocking Officer B’s sunglasses off from his head. Officer B grabbed prisoner A around his head and neck area in attempt to stop prisoner A from continuing to strike Officer B in the head.

Officer B delivered a strike to prisoner A to gain compliance while he was still actively resisting.

While attempting to guide prisoner A to the ground prisoner A gained control of Officer A’s left arm. Prisoner A began biting Officer A in the left forearm while holding on to the Officers wrists. Officer A applied a pressure point to the right mandibular angle of prisoner A to stop A from continuing to bite. The mandibular angle was effective, and prisoner A stopped biting Officer A.  The biting did not result in breaking CO A’s skin.

Officer C arrived to assist in gaining control of prisoner A.

Officer D arrived requesting for additional staff in Housing Unit 2 with his handheld radio.

Prisoner A grabbed Officer C’s left leg and began biting his left calve. Officer C administered a one round burst of his personal chemical agent towards prisoner A’s face, the chemical agent was ineffective, and the prisoner continued to bite. Officer A applied another pressure point to prisoner A right mandibular angle causing the prisoner to stop biting Officer C. The mandibular angle was effective, and he stopped biting Officer C.  The biting did not result in breaking CO C’s skin.

Officer E arrived on the scene and assisted in restraining prisoner A; prisoner A was restrained.

At 13:14 hours, Officer F, Officer G, Officer H, Officer I, Officer J, Officer K, Officer L, Officer M and Officer N arrived. The additional staff helped secure the unit and provide crowd control. 

CO A and CO B have been transported to Manistee Munson Hospital for further evaluation. 

Prisoner A is transferring.
