10/18/2024 – Corrections Officer sustains head injury from prisoner assault at Carson City Correctional Facility (DRF)

At 08:22 hours, prisoner A was released from Segregation and reported to 800 Unit.  As prisoner A entered 800 he approached the officers’ station and stated to Officer A and Resident Unit Manager (RUM) B “I don’t feel safe in here” and punched Officer A in the face.  Staff immediately responded and handcuffed prisoner A.  RUM B and Sergeant (Sgt) C placed prisoner A into the High Security Escort position and escorted him to Segregation.  During the escort to Segregation prisoner A became actively resistant by pulling and pushing away from staff.  Staff placed prisoner A on the ground and requested the Emergency Restraint Chair (ERC).  Staff placed prisoner A into the ERC and escorted him to Segregation without any further incident.

Officer A was sent to Carson City Hospital (CCH) for evaluation and treatment.  Officer A has a broken front tooth and a headache.   Officer A was taken off from work for the remainder of the day and cleared to return to work full duty on 10/19/2024.

Staff completed a Class I Misconduct Report for Assault Resulting in Serious Physical Injury (staff victim) for prisoner Beaudin.
