10/8/2024 – Corrections Officer at Oaks Correctional Facility (ECF) injured, requiring stiches.
At 17:15 hours, Officer A ordered prisoner A to return to his cell. A refused and stayed on the upper stairs of B wing. Officer A approached and instructed prisoner A to turn around and be restrained. Prisoner A backed away and refused again.
Prisoner A then struck Officer A in the head with a closed fist, knocking him down.
Officers B and Officer C attempted to restrain prisoner A, but he struck Officer C in the head. The two officers managed to escort prisoner A to the ground, and Officer A assisted in controlling him until additional staff arrived.
Prisoner A was restrained and escorted to Housing Unit 5 Segregation, resisting staff. Prisoner A was placed in observation Cell 5-226 and assigned a prisoner observation aide until transfer.
Officer A was escorted to Munson – Manistee where he received a couple of stitches in his eyebrow and was cleared to return to work.
Officer C did not require further evaluation and was released to full duty. Injury Reports completed for all three officers
Prisoner A seen by Health Care but refused treatment. He was drug tested prior to being transferred to ICF.
Prior to this incident, staff completed a cell search with no contraband found.
