11/9/23 Update on Overtime DOM changes

Members,

The Department has revised the Overtime DOM effective immediately. The first revision that adds language about including separate Day Activity shifts on the Day Shift mandate list is not a change to current practice. It is a clarification of what has been being done for the past 3 years.

The second revision concerns giving CCW holders credit for a mandate if they are involuntarily sent on a transportation run that extends past the end of their assigned shift. We have advocated for this for some time now to address those officers being mandated to transportation runs whenever needed but not getting credited on the mandate list.

The third revision creates a mandate exemption for officers that have pre-scheduled medical appointments. Our members have struggled with having to miss hard to get appointments that are scheduled far in advance and with being written up for refusing mandates to go to the appointments. We were not in favor of a quarterly limit; we believe it should be case by case, but we will continue to work on it. The documentation of the appointment must be provided in advance as described. The intent is to ensure the appointment is legitimate and avoid arbitrary decisions by shift commanders.

This is just a quick summary of the revisions. We will continue to monitor how these revisions roll out and address any issues that arise.
