12/27/2024 – Corrections Officer injured, and multiple weapons recovered during prisoner assault at Marquette Branch Prison (MBP)

At 0903 hours while G-Unit yard was coming in, prisoners A and B, began fighting on the first gallery front side. Both prisoners had weapons and were using them.

Corrections Officer A was first to respond, giving orders to stop fighting. Both prisoners continued striking each other and CO A tried to pull prisoner A away to separate them and yelled commands at prisoner B to stop. Prisoner A was actively resisting CO A’s attempts to separate and then began assaulting CO A. Other staff responded and helped gain control of both prisoners as CO A placed prisoner A on the floor to gain control.

Two weapons were recovered both approximately 6 x 1-inch sharpened metal with one having latex glove wrapped and the other cloth wrapped handles and are being processed for the MSP Evidence locker. The origin of the metal used is being looked into at this time.

CO A has a large lump on his forehead and was transported by Captain B to UPHS for evaluation.

Both prisoners are on temporary segregation status.

All G-Unit movement has been stopped while we look further into this – phones are being passed.

CO A returned from UPHS at 1115 hours and was cleared to return to work at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

No other staff injuries have been reported.

Incident will be referred to MSP.
