10/25/2024 – Corrections Officer struck in the head by a prisoner at Charles E. Egeler Reception & Guidance Center (RGC)

At 2031 hours, Officer A was attempting to lock prisoner A into his cell when prisoner A began to strike Officer A in the head several times with closed fists. Officer A took a few steps back as he put his hands in a high guard stance to try and deflect the strikes and created distance by pushing and performed an open hand strike to prisoner A. Prisoner A continued to close the gap and struck Officer A with closed fisted strikes and Officer A performed straight arm strike from a high guard stance as Officer A continued to try and create distance. Officer B arrived on the scene as Officer A. SGT C arrived and placed prisoner A in wrist restraints and escorted him out of the housing unit.

Officer A reported to Control Center and stated he did not have any serious injuries. Officer A had redness on the left side of his face and a small abrasion behind his left ear. Officer A was escorted by Officer D to HFJ ER. At 2228 hours, Officer D notified Control Center that Officer A was being discharged from HFJ ER and returning to the facility.  

Currently the motive is unknown.

Prisoner perpetrator is transferring.
