7/20/24 – Staff Assault – Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility

Prisoner 1 from Unit 4 was late for Big Yard.  Prisoner 1 was redirected by staff to return to his Cell.  Prisoner 1 arrived to 4-154B. Door was opened by staff so Prisoner 1 can enter Cell 4-154.  Once 4-154 Cell door opened, Prisoner 2 exited cell 4-154 and was trying to go to Big Yard.  Once Prisoner 2 made it to the POD area stairs, Officer A stopped Prisoner 2, and Officer A was trying to redirect Prisoner 2 to his Cell because Prisoner 2 was too late for big yard.  Officer A was coming down the POD stairs when Prisoner 2 began striking Officer A multiple times with closed fists to the face and neck area.  Prisoner 2 then struck Officer B in the face with a closed fist.  Officer A and Officer B guided Prisoner 2 to the ground.  Wrist restraints when applied on Prisoner 2. LT C directed staff from Housing Unit 5 to bring a Restraint Chair to Housing Unit 4.  The Restraint Chair arrived in Housing Unit 4.  Prisoner 2 was placed in the Restraint Chair and was escorted to Housing Unit 8 without any further incident.

Officer D is transporting Officer A and Officer B to U of M Ionia ER.  Officer D will stay with Officer A and Officer B until discharged. 

Prisoner 2 is being transferred. Incident is being referred to MSP.
